Discord Time Converter: Timestamp Generator
This Discord time converter is also a Discord timestamp generator: it turns a date, time and time zone into ready-to-paste Discord timestamp codes for every format, with a live preview of how each one looks. Everyone who reads your message sees the time in their own zone.

What is a Discord timestamp?
A Discord timestamp is a short code that Discord turns into a date or time that adapts to each reader. The syntax is <t:UNIX:STYLE>, where UNIX is a Unix time in seconds and STYLE is a letter. Everyone sees the same moment in their own time zone and language.
That is why it is better than typing "8 PM EST" in an event post. A player in Tokyo and a player in London both see their own local clock for the same moment, with no mental math. Discord's developer documentation says timestamps are expressed in seconds and shown in the viewer's zone and locale.
The Unix part counts the seconds since January 1, 1970 UTC. If you already have a number, or want to turn a code back into a readable date, the epoch time converter does that.
How do I use the Discord time converter to make a timestamp?
Pick the date and time above, choose the time zone you mean, then copy the code for the style you want and paste it into a Discord message. For example, <t:1618953630:F> becomes a full date with the weekday. Send the message and Discord renders the code as a time.
- Set the date and time. It starts at the current moment, and the quick buttons move it to now, one hour ahead or tomorrow.
- Check the time zone. It starts as your device zone. If you are planning for a friend in another place, pick the zone you are using as the reference.
- Press Copy next to the style you like.
- Paste it into a message, an event description or a channel topic.
The Unix number above the list is the same in every style. Only the last letter changes. That means you can build any style by hand: copy one code and swap the letter.
What do the Discord time formats look like?
Discord has seven everyday styles: t, T, d, D, f, F and R. They give short time, medium time, short date, long date, long date with time, full date with weekday and time, and relative time such as "in 2 hours". Two newer short-date styles, s and S, are in the extra list.
The list below shows how the timestamp 1618953630 renders for a viewer in New York with US English settings. Discord's own documentation lists the same styles, and the default when you leave the letter off is f.
| Style | Name | Looks like |
|---|---|---|
| t | Short time | 5:20 PM |
| T | Medium time | 5:20:30 PM |
| d | Short date | 04/20/2021 |
| D | Long date | April 20, 2021 |
| f | Long date with short time (default) | April 20, 2021 at 5:20 PM |
| F | Full date with short time | Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at 5:20 PM |
| s | Short date with short time | 04/20/2021, 5:20 PM |
| S | Short date with medium time | 04/20/2021, 5:20:30 PM |
| R | Relative time | Depends on the day you read it, such as "4 years ago" |
Pick f or F for an event announcement, t when only the clock matters, and R for a countdown. The R style keeps updating inside Discord, so "in 3 hours" later becomes "in 2 hours". The preview here is a close guide, and the exact wording and date order depend on the reader's Discord language setting.
Why does my Discord timestamp show the wrong time?
Almost always, the time zone in the generator did not match the one you meant when you typed the time. The code stores one fixed moment, so Discord shows it correctly to everyone. If 8 PM turns into 3 PM, you picked your own zone but meant another. Change the zone and copy the new code.
The picker has two parts: the clock time you type and the zone that clock is in. Together they decide the Unix number. Typing 20:00 while the zone says America/New_York and typing 20:00 while it says UTC give two codes that are hours apart.
Daylight saving matters too. A zone name such as America/New_York already knows whether the date is in summer or winter time, so it is safer than a fixed offset like "EST".
Can I use milliseconds instead of seconds?
No. Discord expects whole seconds. A 13-digit number from JavaScript Date.now() must be divided by 1,000 first. This page always gives you the seconds value.
When should I use each Discord time format?
Use R for countdowns, F for event posts and t for a bare clock time. Short date d suits deadlines in a changelog, and D reads well in announcements. If you are unsure, f is Discord's default and shows both the date and the time in one line.
- Event start: F, then R in brackets, so readers get the full date and a countdown.
- Daily reset or stream time: t, since the date is implied.
- Deadline in a rules channel: D or d.
- Logs and moderation notes: T or S, because seconds help.
You can put several codes in one message. A common pattern is the same timestamp twice, once as F and once as R. Because both codes carry the same number, they never drift apart.
Frequently asked questions
How do I use a Discord timestamp converter?
Pick the date, time and zone in the converter and copy the code. Or turn the moment into Unix seconds and write it as <t:SECONDS:STYLE>, for example <t:1618953630:F>. The generator does the conversion for you and shows a preview.
What is the Discord timestamp format?
The format is <t:UNIX:STYLE>, with a Unix time in seconds and a style letter such as t, T, d, D, f, F or R. If you leave the style out, Discord uses f, a long date with a short time.
Does a Discord timestamp work in every time zone?
Yes. The code holds one exact moment, not a clock reading, so each reader sees it converted to their own zone. That is the main reason to use it instead of writing a time as text.
Can I use a Discord timestamp in a message, an embed or an event?
The codes are meant for message text. They are commonly used in message content and embed descriptions, but where they render can change, so send a test message in your server before you rely on them in a new place.
What is the R style in a Discord timestamp?
R is relative time. Discord writes it as phrases such as "in 2 hours" or "3 days ago" and updates it as time passes. It is good for countdowns and "last seen" lines.
How do I get the current Discord timestamp?
Open this page and the date and time start at the current moment. The Unix number and all the codes are ready to copy at once. Use the "Now" button to reset to the present at any time.
Does the Discord time converter handle daylight saving?
Yes, if you choose a named zone such as Europe/London or America/Chicago. A named zone applies the right summer or winter offset for the date you pick. A fixed abbreviation does not, which is the usual reason a timestamp is one hour off.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. The page runs in your browser and makes no network requests. The date and zone you pick are not uploaded or stored. This tool is not affiliated with or endorsed by Discord.
