How old am I calculator: how do I calculate my age?
Subtract your birth date from today, counting whole years first, then whole months, then the leftover days. The calculator above does this live from your date of birth. Born June 15, 1990, on October 28, 2026 you are 36 years, 4 months and 13 days old.
Count the years to your most recent birthday (June 15, 2026 gives 36). Then count whole months from that birthday (to October 15 is 4). The days left over until today are 13. That is the same method used for a "years, months and days" answer, and it is why the result never shows a day count above the length of a month.
| Measure | Value |
|---|---|
| Years, months, days | 36 years, 4 months, 13 days |
| Total months | 436 |
| Total weeks | 1,897 |
| Total days | 13,284 |
| Total hours | 318,816 |
Your age as a plain number of years is the first figure only. The other lines are useful for things like a pet or baby milestone, a school form that asks for months, or just curiosity.
How do I find my age in days, months, weeks and hours?
Count the days between your birth date and today, then convert. Divide by 7 for whole weeks, multiply years by 12 and add months for total months, and multiply days by 24 for hours. The calculator shows all four totals under your age, so you can copy any of them.
Total days is the exact count of calendar days from your birth date to the "age as of" date. Hours are days multiplied by 24. This counts from midnight to midnight, so it does not use your time of birth and it can be off by up to a day's worth of hours from a to-the-minute figure.
If you want a different reference day, open "Calculate age on another date". It works for dates in the past, such as the day you started school, and in the future, such as the day you plan to retire.
How are leap years and February 29 birthdays handled?
Every real calendar day is counted, including February 29. A year is a leap year if it divides by 4, except century years, which must divide by 400. So 2000 and 2024 are leap years, while 1900 and 2100 are not. For a February 29 birthday, this calculator uses February 28 in common years.
The rule comes from the Gregorian calendar, as published by the US Naval Observatory. It matters here because a year can be 365 or 366 days long.
| Year | Leap year? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | Yes | Divisible by 4, not a century year |
| 1900 | No | Century year, not divisible by 400 |
| 2000 | Yes | Century year divisible by 400 |
| 2100 | No | Century year, not divisible by 400 |
Someone born on February 29, 2000 turns 1 on February 28, 2001 in this calculator, 365 days later. Some places, including the UK, treat March 1 as the birthday in common years for legal purposes, and the rule varies by country and by purpose. If a legal age limit matters, check the rule that applies to you.
How does the next birthday countdown work?
The countdown under your age shows the date, the age you will turn and the time left in months, days and total days. With a birthday on June 15 and a start date of October 28, 2026, the next one is Tuesday, June 15, 2027, which is 230 days away and makes you 37.
If today is your birthday, the card says so and then counts to the following year. The weekday is included so you can plan ahead: the same date moves forward one weekday each year, or two after a leap day.
The "age as of" date also works as a countdown target. Set it to a future date and you see how old you will be on that day. For comparing two dates that are not birthdays, the time duration calculator gives the exact gap in hours and minutes.
Why does one how old am I calculator differ from another?
They differ on how they count months and on whether they use the time of birth. Months are not all the same length, so a month is a calendar month here, not 30 days. Some tools also use averages such as 365.25 days per year. This calculator uses real calendar dates only.
Counting whole months from a day like the 31st has to deal with shorter months. Here, a birthday on the 31st lands on the last day of shorter months, so Jan 31 to Feb 28 counts as one month. Other tools may round differently, and neither answer is wrong. Both are conventions.
Time zones can change "today" near midnight. The calculator uses the date on your device. If you were born in another zone, the date on your birth certificate is the one to enter.
Frequently asked questions
How old am I if I was born in 2000?
In 2026 you are 25 if your birthday has not happened yet and 26 if it has. Enter your exact date of birth above to get your age in years, months and days instead of a rough number from the birth year.
How do I use a date of birth calculator?
Type your date of birth into the box at the top and the result appears at once. You get your age in years, months and days, plus total months, weeks, days and hours and the days left until your next birthday. Nothing needs to be submitted.
How do I calculate my age in days?
Count the days from your date of birth to today. Doing it by hand means adding the days of each year, with 366 for leap years. The calculator above shows the total days instantly. For example, 13,284 days is 36 years, 4 months and 13 days.
How do I calculate age on a specific date?
Open "Calculate age on another date" under the date of birth box and pick the date. The result then shows the age on that day instead of today, which is useful for forms, eligibility checks and planning future birthdays.
What is my age if I was born on February 29?
This calculator counts your birthday on February 28 in non-leap years, so you gain a year then. Every four years the real February 29 is used. Legal systems differ, with some using March 1, so check the rule for your purpose.
Is the age calculator accurate to the day?
Yes, to the calendar day. It uses exact dates, month lengths and leap years. It does not use the time of birth, so total hours are counted from midnight to midnight and may differ from a to-the-minute figure.
How many weeks old am I?
Divide your total days by 7 and drop the fraction. The calculator shows total weeks for you. A person who is 13,284 days old is 1,897 weeks and 5 days old.
Can I calculate the age of a baby or a pet?
Yes. Enter the birth date and read years, months, weeks and days. For babies the months and weeks lines are the most useful. Pet age in "human years" is a different calculation that this tool does not attempt.
Is my date of birth stored or sent anywhere?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser. The date you enter is not uploaded or saved, and the page makes no network requests.
