How does the annual salary calculator turn an hourly wage into yearly pay?
To calculate annual salary from an hourly wage, multiply the hourly rate by the hours you work each week and by the weeks you work each year. At $25 an hour, 40 hours a week and 52 weeks, that is $25 x 40 x 52 = $52,000 a year before tax. This is the same math the hourly to salary calculator above runs.
The formula has three parts: hourly rate x hours per week x weeks per year. A full-time schedule of 40 hours for 52 weeks gives 2,080 paid hours, so every dollar of hourly pay is worth $2,080 a year. That shortcut is handy when you only need a quick answer in your head.
| Hourly rate | Weekly | Monthly | Annual |
|---|---|---|---|
| $15 | $600 | $2,600 | $31,200 |
| $18 | $720 | $3,120 | $37,440 |
| $20 | $800 | $3,466.67 | $41,600 |
| $25 | $1,000 | $4,333.33 | $52,000 |
| $30 | $1,200 | $5,200 | $62,400 |
| $40 | $1,600 | $6,933.33 | $83,200 |
| $50 | $2,000 | $8,666.67 | $104,000 |
If you work 30 hours a week, change the hours box to 30 and the annual figure drops to $39,000 at $25 an hour. If you take two weeks of unpaid leave, change weeks per year to 50. If your time off is paid, keep it at 52, because you still receive that pay.
How do you convert salary to hourly pay?
To convert salary to hourly pay, divide the annual salary by the hours you work in a year. For a full-time job that is 40 hours x 52 weeks = 2,080 hours, so $60,000 a year is about $28.85 an hour. Pick "per year" in the salary to hourly calculator above and type the salary.
Choose the "per year" switch, enter your salary, and the Hourly row of the table shows the rate. The same works for a monthly figure: pick "per month" and the calculator multiplies by 12 first.
| Annual salary | Hourly | Bi-weekly |
|---|---|---|
| $40,000 | $19.23 | $1,538.46 |
| $50,000 | $24.04 | $1,923.08 |
| $60,000 | $28.85 | $2,307.69 |
| $75,000 | $36.06 | $2,884.62 |
| $100,000 | $48.08 | $3,846.15 |
Salaried people often work more than 40 hours. If you really work 50 hours a week, set hours per week to 50 and you will see the lower true hourly rate that your salary works out to.
How much is $20 an hour per year?
At 40 hours a week for 52 weeks, $20 an hour is $41,600 a year, or $800 a week, before tax. That comes to about $3,466.67 a month. If you work fewer hours or weeks, scale it down: 30 hours a week at $20 an hour is $31,200 a year.
Tap the "$20 an hour" example under the inputs to see the whole breakdown. A few quick variations: at 35 hours a week the annual pay is $36,400, and at 32 hours it is $33,280. These numbers are gross, so what reaches your bank account is lower after taxes and any deductions. For overtime at 1.5 times your rate, use the time and a half calculator.
How does an annual salary calculator handle bi-weekly and semi-monthly pay?
Bi-weekly pay means a paycheck every two weeks, 26 a year, while semi-monthly pay means twice a month, 24 a year. On a $52,000 salary, a bi-weekly check is $2,000 gross and a semi-monthly check is $2,166.67. The annual total is the same, only the check size changes.
The calculator shows both so you can compare a job offer with your current pay schedule. Weekly pay is annual salary divided by the weeks worked. Bi-weekly is two weeks of pay. Semi-monthly is the annual salary divided by 24. Monthly is the annual salary divided by 12. Daily assumes a five-day work week, so it is weekly pay divided by 5.
These are conventions, and employers differ. The New York City Office of Payroll Administration, for example, publishes a pay rate calculator that bases its hourly rate on 261 work days a year, which gives 2,088 hours for an 8-hour day instead of 2,080. Your own payroll department has the final say on how your pay is figured.
Is this annual salary before or after taxes?
Every figure in this annual income calculator is gross pay, which means before federal and state taxes, Social Security, Medicare, and benefit deductions. Take-home pay depends on your filing status, state, and deductions, so it is always lower than the amounts shown. Check your pay stub for the net figure.
The tool does not estimate taxes on purpose. Tax rules change from year to year and from state to state, and a flat guess would mislead more than it helps. If you want to compare two offers, comparing gross pay on the same basis is a fair first step. For percentage questions such as a raise, try the percentage calculator.
Frequently asked questions
How many hours are in a work year?
A full-time year is usually counted as 2,080 hours, which is 40 hours a week for 52 weeks. Some payroll systems use a slightly different count, such as 2,088 hours for 261 workdays of 8 hours, so confirm which yours uses.
How do I convert hourly to salary?
Multiply your hourly rate by the hours you work each week, then by the weeks you work each year. At $22 an hour, 40 hours and 52 weeks, that is $45,760 a year before tax.
What is $25 an hour as a yearly salary?
At 40 hours a week and 52 weeks a year, $25 an hour equals $52,000 a year, $1,000 a week and about $4,333.33 a month, all before tax. Fewer hours or weeks will reduce the total proportionally.
How do I convert monthly pay to annual salary?
Multiply gross monthly pay by 12. A salary of $4,500 a month is $54,000 a year. Pick "per month" in the calculator, enter the amount, and it shows hourly, weekly and bi-weekly pay as well.
How do I change the weeks per year for unpaid time off?
Lower the weeks per year box by the number of unpaid weeks. Fifty weeks at $25 an hour and 40 hours gives $50,000. Paid vacation and paid holidays still count as paid weeks, so leave them in.
Why do different calculators show slightly different results?
They use different assumptions, such as 2,080 or 2,088 hours a year, 52 or 52.14 weeks, or 4 or 4.33 weeks a month. Here the assumptions are shown: 52 weeks by default, 12 months, 26 bi-weekly and 24 semi-monthly periods.
Does this wage converter include overtime or bonuses?
No. It converts one flat pay rate across periods. Overtime, bonuses, commissions and tips are not included. Add them to your pay amount yourself or use a separate overtime tool.
Can I use this salary to hourly calculator for part-time work?
Yes. Set hours per week to your actual schedule, such as 24, and weeks per year to the weeks you work. The annual and hourly figures update to match your real schedule.
